Become a Nicotine Treatment Specialist
Cigarettes are no longer the only problem. People need support for quitting vapes, oral nicotine, and synthetic products — and they need someone who understands all of it. That’s where you come in.
Why the Name Change?
We used to call this the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Program, but nicotine addiction has changed. Now, people are more likely to use vapes, pouches, and non-tobacco nicotine products. Our program has evolved to reflect this shift — because nicotine is nicotine, no matter how it’s delivered.
Why Become a Nicotine Treatment Specialist?
Helping people quit nicotine is more important than ever.
It’s not just cigarettes anymore. People now use vapes, pouches, lozenges, and even synthetic nicotine — which doesn’t come from tobacco but still causes addiction and health problems.
As a Nicotine Treatment Specialist, you’ll learn how to help people quit all forms of nicotine — not just smoking. You’ll gain the skills to:
- Understand how nicotine affects the body and brain
- Teach others about quitting in ways that work
- Support people through withdrawal, cravings, and relapse
- Learn the newest treatments, tools, and medications
- Work in clinics, schools, communities, and more
Who Should Take This Course?
- Nurses, respiratory therapists, healthcare providers, health educators, and counselors
- School staff, peer recovery coaches, community workers, and social workers
- People who want to support their clients, patients, or community
- Anyone who cares about public health and wants to help others live nicotine-free
What’s New?
We have been known since the early 2000’s to have been a certifying body in this field, but starting July 1, 2025, we’re changing gears.
Now we are going to be known solely as a training program that prepares you to earn national certification through trusted organizations like:
- The American Heart Association
- National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC)
These national groups now handle the testing for national certification and recertification. We’ll help get you ready for it.
